Winter Plunge

Winter Plunge 2008

Date/Time: TBA

Location: Carson Beach, South Boston

On February 11, 2007, a brave group of GMDVP supporters submerged into the icy waters of Boston Harbor for GMDVP’s 3rd annual Winter Plunge. Once again, the stunt captured significant press attention with television news cameras and mainstream and GLBT newspaper photographers. According to plunger Rob Sutfin, “Great costumes, news cameras literally following you into the ocean, freezing water and raising money for a good cause … what’s not to like?!” This year’s event surpassed previous years’ plunges both for the amount of funds raised and for the number of individuals stepping up to take the plunge.

If you are up for a thrill in February 2008, come out and join us. We ask plungers to gather pledges for their plunge – like sane individuals do for walk-athons – and we are happy to help you in your fundraising efforts.

If you want to plunge this year or just come out for the crazy stunt, contact GMDVP.

Rocca is one of Boston's newest and most highly anticipated restaurants. It is the latest endeavor for The Sapphire Restaurant Group (Noir and Blu). Be one of the first to enjoy this new South End hotspot and it's menu inspired by the Italian region of Linguria in its beautiful venue designed by Duffy Design.

David Ekizian and John Lawler
Community Leader Award Recipients

In 1999, David and John donated their time and talent to design a pioneering public health ad campaign for GMDVP. The resulting “He Loves Me Not” campaign was an overwhelming success, acclaimed in both the local and national press. More importantly, the campaign struck a powerful emotional cord with the Massachusetts gay community, particularly those who were victims of domestic violence. It is due to David and John’s work on this campaign and two follow up campaigns that thousands of victims of domestic violence have been able to come forward for help, that mainstream service providers no longer ignore the needs of gay male victims and that GMDVP has become a local and nationally recognized leader in service provision, advocacy and education for gay victims/survivors of domestic violence.

GMDVP’s 2nd annual Gay Male Performing Singer/Songwriter Festival, ‘The Big Taboo’, will take place September 21st -23rd at the Art House Theatre in Provincetown.

The event will showcase many leading gay performers from across the Northeast; including: Rick Berlin, Peter Donnelly, Aiden James, Martin Swinger, Gregory Douglas, Tom Wilson Weinberg, Ernie Lijoi and Brian King. In addition to providing a showcase for talented performers, the festival raises money for GMDVP.

The Big Taboo is the brainchild of Peter Donnelly of Provincetown and is the only music festival in the United States focused on gay male singer songwriters. Edge Boston reported the 2006 event “was a huge success…The audiences reveled in a side of the gay community rarely heard.”

This event would not be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors:
