The staff and volunteers of the Gay Men’s Domestic Violence Project (GMDVP) maintain as confidential the:
- names, addresses and identifying facts of GMDVP clients;
- the locations and proprietors of all Safe Homes in the our housing network; and
- the location of the GMDVP office.
This confidentiality agreement means that if you are a GMDVP client:
- We will not disclose to any other person or entity whether we have had contact with you or provided services to you, or whether or not you are residing in our housing program.
- We will not disclose to any other person or entity information or materials that you have disclosed or given to us or that we have disclosed or given to you.
- We will oppose any subpoena or other legal effort to obtain this information from us, when you have not authorized the release of this information.
Written informed client consent is required from you when the release of any of your information is necessary to anyone outside the agency or with individuals inside the agency who are not involved in providing services to you.
There are exceptions to this confidentiality. As required by law, the information a client gives us may not be kept confidential if we:
- Witness an actual or imminent physical assault or unlawful and dangerous act upon a client, staff or volunteer.
- Learn or have reason to believe that a client intends to harm himself/herself or a client intends to harm another person and has the means and ability to do so.
- Learn or have reason to suspect that a minor child or an elder person is being abused or neglected.
