Information for Friends/Family of Victims and Survivors

The information on these pages are designed to help individuals who are concerned about a friend or family member who may be in an abusive relationship.

Watching a friend or loved one go through the difficult process of self-identifying and accepting the abuse in their relationship can be heart wrenching and frustrating. Many victims will attempt to leave several times before successfully separating from their partner and the cyclical returning to the abusive partner can put a strain on the strongest of friendships.

Some of the information here will help you learn more about domestic violence. Some of the information here will provide you with suggestions for how you might help someone who is in an abusive relationship.

Remember, if you have questions about any of the material on this website, you can always contact a GMDVP victim advocate who would be happy to talk with you.
